Course Information

Course allocation is as specified in the BOF competition rules for British Night Championships.  These course distances are in line with the planned revised rules for 2024, equalising winning times for men and women of the same age.

It must be noted that course 1 will have over 30 controls and therefore runners should have an Si Card (dibber) to accomodate this.

Course details subject to final controlling decisions.

Courses close at 21.45 (subject to entries). For safety reasons you must finish (or report to the download if retiring) by this time.

Punching

Sportident punching will be used, in standard and touch free modes.

All controls will be SIAC enabled. But you must dib at the Finish (and start for helpers with a punching start).

A SIAC battery test station will be available at the event centre for those wishing to check the status of their SIAC batteries.

Competitors with standard or hired SI cards must also dib at all controls.

It is the competitor’s responsibility to ensure that their SI card has registered at the control.

Registration & Start Times

Start times

Due to the significant entry to the event start times will run up to 20:00.

Courses will close promptly at 9:45pm or two hours after last start. To be confirmed when entries are better known.

Start/Finish/Arena

There is one start and finish for all courses. The arena is very compact with only a short walk from parking/enquires/start and finish.

Bibs are kindly provided by Kong Running in Keswick (Please bring pins).  Don't forget to collect your bib and have your kit checked.

Due to the nature of the event a waterproof top and whistle must be carried.   A spare  torch is essential (A mobile phone does not qualify as a spare torch). Kit check will take place prior to starting .  You may miss your start time if you have no spare torch etc.

Due to the compact nature of the arena there is no need for a clothing dump. Portable toilets will be close to start and finish.

A 9m by 12m marquee will available for shelter, enquiries and download.  There is no seating so you may wish to bring a folding chair to enjoy your post run with friends.

We are pleased to say that Podium Catering will be present during the evening.

Start procedure

Call up will be at -4. All runners have a timed start (except for helpers who will have a punching start). If you are late for your allocated start time, you will be started in the first available slot for your course, or at a half minute interval. Your start time will not be adjusted, but the start official will record your start time. If you believe you are late due to the fault of the organiser you must register a complaint when downloading.

Results and prize giving

Live results will be on display in the large tent at the event centre. Provisional results and route gadget will be posted to the event website as soon after the event as is practical.

The event prize-giving and presentation of British Night Champions will take place promptly in the large tent at 21.30. Vouchers have been very generously donated by Kong Running.  Their shop is located in Keswick - very close to the event and stocks a a good range of running shoes including dobbed shoes.  They also stock a good range of orienteering compasses and some clothing.

There will be prizes for the top 3 in each of the championship categories and the winner only in each short class.

Any unclaimed prizes will be taken to the event hosted by LOC on the following Sunday.

Complaints and protests

If you have a complaint where you believe that a fault by the event organisation has significantly affected your result, please initially raise this with the event organiser who will be based at the event assembly. You must do this within 20mins of downloading.

Should the event organiser’s response not satisfy you, you will be asked to write down your complaint and submit it for consideration by the event jury. This must be done within 20 minutes of the organiser's response.

The event jury’s decision will be final.
